Tom Kenyon – Ultimate Brain
Description
ULTIMATE BRAIN USER GUIDE WELCOME TO THE FINAL BRAIN
The Ultimate Brain series is the culmination of over twenty years of research and writing. It features many of the most useful programs in the Acoustic Brain Research Library — programs that have benefited many people over the years. May they also help you develop your creativity and intelligence, improve your problem-solving abilities, reduce stress, and enhance your sense of well-being. WHAT IS A BRAIN STATE? The brain emits electrical potentials or patterns throughout its structure, caused by the passage of information between brain cells. These electrical patterns, or brain waves, have been clinically shown to correlate with various mental and emotional states. The standard way to measure brain activity is the electroencephalogram, or EEG. The EEG measures how slowly or quickly the brain’s electromagnetic field pulses. These pulses are so fast that they must be measured in cycles per second, or hertz (Hz). Brain states have been roughly divided into seven categories: Ultra High Beta: 35-150Hz K-Complex: 33-35 Hz High Beta: 23-33 Hz Beta: 14-23 Hz Alpha: 8-14 Hz Theta: 4-8 Hz Delta: 0.5-4 Hz Delta is in the range of 0.5-4.0 Hz, and this is due to deep sleep and lack of awareness of oneself. However, some people with highly developed nervous systems have reported deep immobility and relaxed awareness of themselves while in the delta. Such people usually develop their nervous system through practices such as yoga, meditation, etc. The next level of brain activity is theta, which is in the 4-8 Hz range. Theta is associated with deep relaxation and deep experiences of the imagination such as dreams, visions, etc. Theta is also associated with certain types of accelerated learning and self-healing phenomena. From theta we move into the alpha state, which is associated with mild relaxation. Alpha is in the 8-14 Hz range and is often used in accelerated learning methods as well as in stress management programs. Alpha is the ideal state for learning and light relaxation as it creates a state of body and mind in which we are both relaxed and aware of the outside world. Beta is what we usually think of as a waking state and is in the 14-23 Hz range. High beta is in the 23-33 Hz range and is associated with heightened mental states. The K-complex is in the 33 Hz range, usually occurs in short bursts and is associated with “a-ha” experiences (when there is a sudden integration of ideas or experiences). Ultra-high beta states are associated with various states of arousal and alertness. Preliminary research by some researchers suggests that some of these higher beta states may be beneficial for building long-term memory and enhancing learning ability. MAGIC WINDOW – ALPHA AND THETA By targeting specific brain conditions, internal activities such as learning, self-healing, and exploring altered states can be greatly facilitated. In particular, the Alpha and Theta brain states are a “magic window” for your innate genius and intuitive abilities. In the theta state, the inner experiences are very real. These imaginary events during theta activity can trigger powerful transformational experiences that can affect not only your mental consciousness, but also your neurophysiology. Because the alpha state is more outwardly directed while still producing a mild state of relaxation, it is ideal for situations where you want to reduce stress around learning, as well as when you want to reduce the negative effects of stress. The terminal brain uses many different brain states, but emphasizes those in the alpha / theta “magic window” to increase your brain’s ability to enter resource altered states of consciousness. Numerous studies have shown the effectiveness of both alpha and theta activities in improving mental and physical health. In addition, these states of body and mind give you access to more intuitive aspects of your own mind — sometimes called inner genius.
WHAT MAKES THE ULTIMATE BRAIN SERIES SO EFFECTIVE? BioPulse ™ frequencies One of the first things you’ll hear when listening to any of these CDs is a series of strange sounds in the background called BioPulse ™ frequencies. These frequencies are designed to allow the brain to move towards the target brain state. Biopulse frequencies are created by taking sound at a rate of 100 cycles per second and then pulsing it at different speeds, creating what is called entrainment. It’s a way to direct the brain to the window of brain activity, to one of the brain states that we want to trigger. For example, a heart rate of 4 cycles per second tends to stimulate a low threshold between Theta and Delta for most people. A pulse of 10 cycles per second tends to stimulate activity in the mid-alpha range. ENTHUSIASM The entrainment principle uses a part of the brain called the ras, or reticular activating system. It sits at the base of the brain in the brainstem and pays attention to new stimuli coming from any of the senses. Whether it’s sound, sight, or touch, all that is different warns RAS and stimulates the rest of the brain into an heightened brain state of greater activity and alertness. When sensory experiences, such as sound or images, are repeated unchanged, the races tend to relax and calm the rest of the brain. A good example of this is the mesmerizing effect of dotted lines on the road as you drive at night. Any pattern that the races pick up stimulates the brain to either relax or become more alert. Capture occurs when sound impulses are captured by the auditory cortex and sent down to the RAS. Ras recognizes this impulse and recognizes it as something else. When the pulse slows down, the brain starts to slow down. When it speeds up, the rest of the brain speeds up. More technically speaking, brain mapping studies (using EEG) show that the brain never enters just one brain state at a time. The brain usually processes many different brain conditions at the same time. Using statistical models, researchers can determine which brain state is predominant or strongest. This is what is usually implied when we say that there has been an increase in a certain state of the brain. TONE MATRIX Another important part of brain stimulation is the use of music specially composed to create an altered state. Sound quality, rhythm, harmonic relationships, melodic passages and so-called sentimental oscillograms are all important parts of this kind of composition. The idea for Sentimental Waves comes from the pioneering work of Manfred Klines. The basic idea is that anything that creates a pressure wave, such as sound or touch, can elicit an emotional response. Sentimental waves are special waveforms used to generate emotional responses. All of these elements, organized together, are what I call a tonal matrix. You will notice that the tonal matrix of each CD in the final series of the brain is very different, because each refers to a different task that we want to perform and a different brain state that we want to perform.
FOUR KINDS OF PSYCHOACOUSTIC INSTRUMENTS IN THE ABR LIBRARY The records in the Acoustic Brain Research Library can be classified into four different types. Of the eight recordings included in the Ultimate Brain series, two help build new neurological networks, one helps release psychological constraints, another acts as external support, and the other four are passive training programs. Each CD contains detailed instructions for its use in the insert notes. Active Learning – Building New Neurological Networks These CDs are most effective when used at least once or twice a week. Enhance Creative Problem Solving is a mid-alpha psychoacoustic recording that uses a technique developed by Dr. Win Wenger called Image Streaming. This very powerful yet simple technique enhances measurable IQ, creativity in problem solving, language skills, and creativity. Research has shown that using image streaming can dramatically increase your IQ for every twenty minutes of use. With gymnastics, you put the brain through its steps, from the low delta to the k-complex. In the same way that when you work out a muscle group in the gym, you get stronger and more physical, in Mind Gymnastics you train specific areas of the brain so that your brain works better. As a result of this training, you will be able to think more clearly and be more creative. RELEASE FROM PSYCHOLOGICAL RESTRICTIONS This CD can be used from once or twice a week to once or twice a day, depending on your support needs. Freedom of Change uses history and metaphor in the “magic window” alpha and theta to empower the subconscious with the ability to create changes in psychological patterns. It is very helpful in overcoming addiction; increasing self-esteem and self-esteem; helps to cope with feelings of depression; copes with emotional pain, grief and loss; and reduces the risk of suicide. ECOLOGICAL SUPPORT Play this CD anytime you need to study, create or work with less stress. Ambient Support is a recording designed to be played in the background at low volumes. It is designed to reduce study and work stress and help you be more creative.
PASSIVE LEARNING These CDs can be used as often as you like. Deep rest is for when you may not have slept enough, or when you just want to take a break from your busy schedule and enter a refreshing brain state. This is especially helpful for those who have difficulty sleeping. Deep relaxation and healing uses the musical interval of the harmonic heel to bring the listener into theta state. It is useful for stress relief, healing, and for creating a deep state of relaxation. Heart Opening also uses the harmonic fifth interval in conjunction with the ancient mantra, which is considered the sound of the inner heart. This is a surprisingly moving, soothing theta relaxation experience that can be used specifically to activate the heart center. The activation of the holographic mind produces a very powerful altered state of consciousness through the use of theta state. Sixteen different voices sing simultaneously, creating a complex geometry of perception. It is used to generate experiences such as fantasies, dreams, visions, as well as for psychonavigation (using altered states to move backward or forward in time, study past memories and enter other areas of consciousness). SMALL ACTION CAN MAKE REAL CHANGE Ultimate Brain is designed to give you everything you need to embark on an exciting journey of enhancing your creativity, intelligence, sense of well-being, creative problem solving, and other resources that are inherent in your nervous system. But remember that the final brain is an ever-evolving process, not an end point. No matter how smart and creative you are, you can always be more resourceful and more powerful in your life. The Higher Brain is the potential for each of us. It is up to you how far you take it. In my twenty-three years as a psychotherapist and brain researcher, I have seen miracles happen in people’s lives as a result of changing the way they use their brains. Research clearly shows that we can build new neurological connections, function at higher levels, and develop new mental and emotional abilities at any age. Regardless of what your life situation is, or what you think your mental and emotional limitations are, know that your brain can change — and when it does, so will your life experience. When it comes to our brains, the slightest change can lead to extraordinary changes. I can honestly give you this promise. Use your ultimate brain for the next month or two and you will be absolutely amazed at the positive changes that will take place in your life, all because your brain will work at a higher level. Years of experience have taught me that our brains love to be challenged; he loves to learn new things, and although it’s not scientific, I think our brains do better when they’re happy. And like happy people, a happy brain is good. So what is NLP? NLP stands for Neurolinguistic Programming. Neuro refers to your neurology; Linguistics refers to language; Programming refers to how this neural language functions. In other words, learning NLP is like learning the language of your own mind! NLP is the study of superior communication with oneself and with other people. It was developed by simulating excellent communicators and therapists who have obtained results with their clients. NLP is a collection of tools and techniques, but there is much more to it. It is the attitude and methodology of knowing how to achieve your goals and get results. Hypnosis smokes Hypnosis is a human condition involving focused attention, decreased peripheral awareness, and increased ability to respond to suggestion. There are competing theories explaining hypnosis and related phenomena. Altered state theories view hypnosis as an altered state of consciousness or trance, characterized by a level of awareness that is different from the normal state of consciousness. In contrast, nonstate theories view hypnosis as a form of placebo effect, redefinition of interaction with the therapist, or a form of imaginary role-playing. It is said that during hypnosis, a person’s concentration of attention increases. Hypnotized subjects are said to exhibit heightened responses to suggestions. Hypnosis usually begins with hypnotic induction, which includes a series of preliminary instructions and suggestions. The use of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes is called “hypnotherapy”, while its use as a form of entertainment for the audience is known as “stage hypnosis.” Stage hypnosis is often performed by mentalists practicing the mental art formzma.
