Here, she demonstrates 8 poses that help relieve stress, plus a daily challenge in honor of National yoga month.
Last week, I collapsed in the shower after dropping my razor and breaking the handle. I could barely breathe as I sat in the shower with my head in my hands. I didn’t even have enough energy to cry. What the hell? I’ve been through a lot in my life, and the broken razor was wearing me down? It was a busy week of deadlines that weren’t met, frustrating people who I felt were counting on me, bad family news, a broken phone, and I felt like I couldn’t even save a couple of hours on a date with my husband. I ran as fast as I could, but failed in all areas. My safety went off, and the trigger turned out to be a razor. Can any of you be related?
Stress requires all our energy. When our batteries are low, we can’t cope, and something can push us to the edge. It’s like being stuck in semi-panic mode, when very little is exhaled and the neck, head and shoulders are likely to be tense. Yoga gives us the tools to cope. When the inner world is nowhere to be found, it is time to tune in to the body. One of the techniques is to notice where stress or panic appears in the body, and take your breath away. In the end, we want to enter into a forward bend that increases the breath, which leads to relaxation. Straight bends are also restorative and return the needle of our battery back to black. The following sequence of forward bends can help to eliminate the symptoms of stress.
