Sedona Method Self-Love and Compassion by Hale Dwoskin
Most of us have more self-loathing than self-love.
We judge, reject, and beat ourselves up instead of appreciating our inner kindness. We consider ourselves limited, unworthy, and imperfect. Yet this could not be further from the truth.
In every moment there is beauty and perfection, both within us and around us, waiting to be discovered. As you learn to love yourself and feel compassion for yourself, your life takes on a whole new quality that revitalizes and enriches everything you experience.
In this course you will learn to open up to love, which is self and self-love. We will cover …
Letting go of the desire to change yourself
We often forget that our desire to change our body / mind often does not help us to change it. Instead, the more we want to change the way we are, the more we focus on the negative and reinforce our negative perceptions. Then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophetic noose. The more you let go of the desire to change the body / mind, the more you can change what needs to be changed, and the more you can accept what is already exactly the way it is.
From rejection to acceptance
We spend a lot of time rejecting parts of our body / mind. The more we reject our body / mind, the more it feels like it’s rejecting us back. If we reject our body / mind, then we feel that we are at war with it instead of being supported by it, and the more we actually do things that are not in line with our highest and best good. By letting go of self-denial, you naturally move towards more acceptance and more caring, caring energy flowing both to the body / mind and from the body-mind to you.
Forgive yourself for everything
We spend a lot of time feeling guilty about all our shortcomings, mistakes and failures. The more we feel guilty, the more we punish ourselves for our real or imagined flaws. When we punish ourselves, we only repeat past patterns that make us feel bad in the first place, which creates a cycle of frustration and unnecessary suffering. When you learn to forgive yourself and love yourself, you will instead break that mold and free yourself to be your highest and best self.
Honoring yourself for who you are
We rarely, if ever, truly honor our body / mind. We often go from using them to abusing them, or simply ignore and reject them. The more you honor yourself for who you are, the more you respect and nurture yourself naturally. This leads to a greater sense of mutual respect and understanding between you and your body / mind, and that honor and respect is poured into the way you treat others. The whole world cooperates more when it is treated with honor, respect, love and compassion.
Practice Loving-Kindness with Yourself
We often treat our cars and pets better than we do ourselves. When you allow yourself to consciously practice loving-kindness towards yourself, you find yourself beginning to treat your body / mind with love and compassion that nourishes and heals, instead of sprinkling salt on inner or outer wounds. Also, when you practice loving-kindness to yourself, you naturally begin to do it with obvious others, which makes the world a better place for everyone.
Be grateful for who you are
Gratitude is a powerful inner force for good. When you focus this power on yourself, allowing yourself to feel grateful for who you are and for what you already have and do, it produces almost magical positive changes within and around you. The more grateful you feel, the more you give reasons to be even more grateful.
Finding your strengths
We so often look at ourselves in terms of not meeting our own or other people’s expectations. When you look for your own strengths, not weaknesses, you are using your inner strength. When you use this inner strength, you find that there are no limits to your inner strength other than the ones you impose on yourself.
Embrace of perfection
When we are just looking for what we want to change and trying to let go and change it, sometimes that’s not enough. This helps to actively seek out what is already ideal in our life. The more you seek perfection, the more you find it. It helps you fuel your positive self-perception, which helps you see and create a sense of perfection with the way things are now. The more you feel perfect, the happier you become and the more you can love, accept, and compassionate yourself.
You are more than skin and bones
When we feel like we are just skin and bones, we live in fear and constriction. We also feel addicted to our body / mind, which generates contempt and resentment. The more you realize that you are more than just skin and bones, the more you can take care of your body and the more your body cares about you. You also feel much more relaxed and at ease within your own skin, which increases your love for yourself and compassion for yourself and others.
You Are Not Your Story.
Most, if not all of our problems are based on the stories we tell ourselves from our past. The more we believe and identify with our stories, the more we forget that they are just stories. This leads to the fact that we lose ourselves in our stories, rather than freeing ourselves to have, be, and do whatever we choose. You may realize that you are much more than anything you believe about yourself.
Seeing a positive future for yourself
Isn’t it time for you to see a positive future for yourself? When we allow ourselves to let go of our negative expectations and envision a positive future for ourselves, we allow our energy to flow in more positive and constructive directions. The more you allow yourself to do this, the more likely you are to experience positive results.
True self-love means love for one self
To allow yourself to truly love yourself, you need to love all of you. The part that most of us ignore is the part of us that is already free from all restrictions and is our true home and being. When we lovingly pay attention to what we really are, then all doubts and self-loathing begin to dissolve, and we are free to be in love with everything that is. We also release ourselves from the constraints of believing that the body / mind is what we are.
