Functional Strength Coach 2 by Mike Boyle
DESCRIPTION
In October 2014, we had our first certified level 1 functional strength trainer. Since then, we have certified more than 700 coaches at events in the United States, England, Ireland, Germany, Italy, and Japan. The feedback was incredible. We sought to set a new standard for certification when we started CFSC, and based on the feedback from those who took the course, we provided.
Since we started working on the CFSC project in 2013, our mission has been to improve the quality of professionals in the industry by providing the best possible educational experience and requiring all coaches to pass a live hands-on exam. By doing this, we create a skilled network of coaches who can create excellent demos and provide clear and concise coaching tips, all within the framework of a systematic approach to programming. Our goal is to make good coaches great, and good coaches even better.
At CFSC level 2, we apply this original mission statement to the athlete population and programming system. To achieve this, we use the same educational process that was so successful with level 1. As soon as you sign up for level 2 (keep in mind that you must already be certified at level 1), you will get access to the training materials on the back of our website. We have about 5 hours of lecture content, a level 2 tutorial, and a multiple-choice exam based on the content you need to pass before the event starts. This allows us to devote the entire 1-day on-site training to hands-on training.
Training material for conducting practical activities on site includes:
Start with “Why: the mbsc programming thought process” (Mike Boyle)
Developing a program for athletes (Kevin Carr)
Developing a program for adults (Kevin Carr)
Building an adaptable learning model: part II (Brandon Twinick)
Level 2 Tutorial
As with the CFSC level 1 certification, we require all applicants to attend an on-site practical event and pass a practical exam at the end of the day. With the Level 2 practice exam, coaches will have to give correct demonstrations and provide clear and concise coaching tips for all the movements covered. This includes Olympic exercises, one-leg squats and plyometrics, kettlebell swings, and more. While this may prevent some from becoming a level 2 CFSC, we believe it is vital for the reputation of the certification and for coaches who successfully pass to get a high rating.
At level 2, we will build on the Foundation of what our level 1 CFSCS have learned. The main focus will be on warm-UPS for athletes, speed exercises, exercises with medball, plyometrics and, of course, strength training. The methods we use to train and demonstrate Olympic exercises in Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning are the main focus of both online content and hands-on activities. This includes a clean hang, a barbell snatch (clean hand grip), a dumbbell snatch, and our regressions / lateralizations such as a squat jump and a kettlebell swing.
We are not only proud of our necessary practical components for obtaining a certificate, but also proud of the fact that we have a low level of participation in coaching. You will never see one coach with a group of more than 40 people. For Level 2, we made our groups even smaller with 10 to 1 participants to train the diet. This ensures that each participant receives the attention and feedback needed to achieve success.
