THE BETTY ERICKSON 3, 2, 1
Description
People sometimes ask me for a self-hypnosis technique, so this article hopes to solve this problem. One of my favorite self-hypnosis techniques is from Betty Erickson. Betty was the wife of the famous psychiatrist and hypnotist Milton Erickson. While Milton changed and reimagined the field of hypnosis, Betty was not shy about helping people learn self-hypnosis. She is reported to have frequently picked clients for Milton Erickson. One of the reasons I love this Betty technique is that it is relatively easy to learn. It is sometimes referred to as the 3,2,1 self-hypnosis technique. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness that can help people change. Hypnosis uses suggestion to help the unconscious maneuver life in better conditions. Most people are familiar with stage hypnosis. Stage hypnosis, however, is a theatrical performance where people are chosen based on how suggestible they are. The goal is to produce something interesting while people are on stage. Therapeutic hypnosis can be seen as a type of heightened awareness where helpful suggestions can be taken over and thus help improve life. While in a hypnotic trance, people are in complete control of themselves. If you’ve ever watched a movie and got so immersed in it, then hypnosis is very similar to that experience. The difference is that in general, the immersion goes into the inner world of ourselves. It is important to understand that hypnosis or self-hypnosis is not a quick fix to a problem. Milton Erickson has frequently worked with clients for many years, both in and out of hypnosis. His therapeutic work was often very subtle and complex. As a rule, one session of hypnosis does not produce long-term results. It is much more helpful to think of it as a tool that often involves a series of hypnotic treatments. These treatments help reinforce wholesome sentences. Self-hypnosis is a great tool for helping a person in many different aspects of life. Three quick tips for self-hypnosis Find a place where no one will disturb you. If you need to keep track of the time, set an alarm. Set a normal day and time for self-hypnosis practice. Performing self-hypnosis at regular times and throughout the day helps prepare yourself for the session. Take a few minutes before trying to hypnotize yourself to establish your intention for the hypnotic session. Igniting Myself This is an effective way to prepare yourself for a self-hypnosis session. This is generally more useful for Think about the time and place where you felt most relaxed. Notice what sounds, physical sensations, and images were available in this environment. The quality of attention is very important, so take the time to remember as many vivid details as possible. Think of the room in your home where you feel most relaxed. Notice how your body feels when you think about this room. Think about activities that relax you. It could be meditation, exercise, or perhaps something creative. Take some time to dive into yourself. When you feel more relaxed, move on to the self-hypnosis section that follows: Betty Erickson Self-Hypnosis Method 3, 2, 1 Keep your eyes open and start paying attention to the three things you see in your immediate environment. These can be colors, paintings on the walls, things outside the windows, etc. Then focus on 3 things you can hear. For example, someone is walking around the house, a car is passing by, you can hear your own breathing. Then focus on three things that you can feel. For example, how your clothes feel on your skin. What you sit or stand on. How does the room you are in feel like, hot or cold, or somewhere in between? The next part is to repeat the same cycle, except this time you pay attention to two things that you see, hear and feel. It is normal for them to be the same things. The last cycle in this chain involves observing one thing that you see, hear and feel. The next part requires you to go inside with your eyes closed in the process. Pay attention to three things that you can see in your mind. Then pay attention to three things you can hear, and then three things you can feel. Notice two things you can see in your mind, then two things you can hear and feel. Finally, pay attention to one thing that you can see in your mind and then one thing that you can hear and feel.
If you are still not in a reasonable trance state, repeat steps 6-8 until you are in it. The next step is to give yourself some helpful tips. For example, you might suggest to yourself that it is easier for you to relax when you are talking to someone. It is a good idea to google for ideas to suggest to yourself while in a hypnotic trance. As noted earlier, a single hypnosis session is unlikely to bring about lasting changes, but repeated sessions with similar topics tend to work well. Hypnosis smokes Hypnosis is a human condition involving focused attention, decreased peripheral awareness, and increased ability to respond to suggestion. There are competing theories explaining hypnosis and related phenomena. Altered state theories view hypnosis as an altered state of consciousness, or trance, characterized by a level of awareness that is different from the normal state of consciousness. In contrast, nonstate theories view hypnosis as a form of placebo effect, redefinition of interaction with the therapist, or a form of imaginary role-playing. It is said that during hypnosis, a person’s concentration of attention increases. Hypnotized subjects are said to exhibit an increased response to suggestions. Hypnosis usually begins with hypnotic induction, which includes a series of preliminary instructions and suggestions. The use of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes is called “hypnotherapy”, while its use as a form of entertainment for the audience is known as “stage hypnosis.” Stage hypnosis is often performed by mentalists practicing the art form of mentalism.
