This is a harsh world for sensitive people. From the constant bombardment of the 24-hour news cycle to the myriad of visual, auditory and chemical toxins in our environment, those of us who are naturally highly sensitive can easily find ourselves overwhelmed.
And understanding can be difficult to find. Have you been told that you need to “grow thick skin”? Have you been treated as if your sensitivity is some kind of weakness or lack of character?

WHAT IS EMPAT?
Since you’re reading this, you probably have a good idea already. Empaths are emotional sponges that absorb both stress and the joy of the world around them. We feel everything, often to the extreme.

Growing up, I didn’t have any resources to explain the needs that come with exceptional sensitivity — and neither my parents nor my teachers. Eventually, I turned to drugs and self-destructive strategies that nearly cost me my life before I finally found help.
Since then, I have become a physician, psychiatrist, researcher, and intuitive healer, and I have paid particular attention to exploring the needs and abilities of empaths and highly sensitive people.

I created this course to complement my book The Empath Survival Guide serves as a practical resource for learning the skills you need to become healthy and strong in a world that is often rude, heartless, and despises empathy.
I also want to provide information and tools for parents, families, partners, and friends who have an empath in their lives. The more we learn to value both our own sensitivity and the sensitivity of those around us, the more we will be able to communicate and support each other.
Empaths and sensitive people face many unique challenges, including:
Over-stimulation – empaths are vulnerable to sensory and social overload
Absorbing stress and negativity from others — makes you more susceptible to “contagious” psychological problems
Feeling things intensely — you may not be able to watch violence, violence, and suffering in the news or entertainment
Emotional and social hangover – the effects of being around too many people or strong emotions can persist long after the event
Isolation and loneliness — your self-defense strategies can cut you off from the world
Burnout – people are eager to share their suffering with a compassionate friend, but many empaths don’t know how to set clear boundaries so they don’t get flooded
Expressing Intimate Needs — Empaths can easily get sucked into unhealthy and codependent relationships
Gender-specific challenges — empathic men are often ridiculed for being “sissy,” while empathic women struggle with authentic self-expression
